Made tracks for the final leg back home. First stop for a break is Holbrook. Formerly known as Germantown, after a German immigrant became the first publican during the 1850’s. During WWl, the town was deemed unpatriotic, and was re-named Holbrook, after Norman Holbrook, a decorated submarine captain and VC winner.

Now bypassed, it was a popular stop for rest, re-fuel and food on the road from Sydney-Melbourne. (approx halfway).

The council, with a public fund raising drive, purchased the outside casing of the HMAS Otway in 1997.

After a pleasant stop for lunch we moved on to our stop for the night. Glenrowan.

Named after farmers James & George Rowan.  It is famous for bushranger Ned Kelly, who made his last stand and was captured there in 1880 after a siege and shootout with police.

A popular rest point and also many exhibits and opportunities to immerse yourself in everything Ned Kelly.
