Murtoa
Hitting the road, Phil staying with us, recently arrived from Liverpool UK, (Sarah’s cousin), will be joining us for the celebrations in Canberra.
We head off for a two week break on the road. The main purpose for the trip was to visit Canberra to see the family and also celebrate a joint milestone birthday for Aiden and Tiarni, who are 21 & 18. Our first stop is to visit the town of Murtoa, for the Murtoa Cup. A horse race. Donovan has a cousin here (Zeek). Colette and the family have visited a number of times to attend the cup.
We thought this is a wonderful idea to incorporate the visit on our trip.
Wow! what a beautiful town of approx 1000 on Lake Marma, and 300 klm from Melbourne.
Tania, Zeek’s twin sister, organised the caravan park for us, the tables at the horse race, and other lovely activities. Thank you Tania and Zeek.

Spring is the season for Canola Oil harvesting. Also our view from the caravan on Lake Marma

Some humour from the farmers. Speed boat-skier-shark fin and Spider Man
Sarah, Colette, Stella
A highlight of the trip was a visit to the Stick Shed. Built during WWII, is almost 300mtr long. It was built to hold grain to store product, as exports were not possible over this period. As steel was required for the war effort, timber was used to construct the shed. The timber was cut from the Dandenongs, close to Melbourne.

A great feature of this region is the silo art painted on what was once concrete grain silos. This example is in Rupanyup, and the night photo in Murtoa, with an old water tank, enclosed with bricks and now a museum.

The day of the big race. $5 each way on No5, outcome……a waste of money. The ladies are resplendent, Colette and Sarah, and my $5 hat at the local market…. now that wasn’t a waste of money. Tania and Stella.

Local activities in the town of some prized automobiles.

Beautiful morning for breakfast outside the van.

Carnival in the town tonight, local bands, moonlight in the park and ….We will remember them in the morning….

Big night around the TV, Melbourne Storm playing the Broncos in the Grand Final.
